KiCad PCB design for Crimpdeq

KiCad PCB design for Crimpdeq. See the Crimpdeq book for more details on the project!

The PCB design is located under pcb/crimpdeq/ and was created using KiCad. It is a two-layer board based on the Rust ESP Board. This design removes unused sensors from the original board and adds the necessary components for this project.

The PCB was sponsored by PCBWay, thank you! Working with them was incredibly easy and fast, and the resulting boards are high quality.

Crimpdeq: common questions

What microcontroller does the Crimpdeq use?

The Crimpdeq is built around the ESP32-C3-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Crimpdeq PCB?

The Crimpdeq measures 23 × 63.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Crimpdeq?

46 components, from 31 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Crimpdeq design files?

From the crimpdeq/crimpdeq-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Crimpdeq design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Crimpdeq without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
