About the Wifi interposer PCB

Wifi interposer is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by dsi-modchip, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 51.3 × 21 mm, with 51 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q16JVUXIQ, D1213A-02SM, MIC5317-1.8YD5, AP2127K-3.3 and USBLC6-2SC6. By type, the board carries 20 capacitors, 13 resistors, 8 ICs, 4 connectors, 2 switches and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

This repository contains the KiCAD design files for the DSi modchip and the cable flex-PCB.

Currently, you'll have to order and make these yourself. I don't think making them widely available already is a good idea, there's still a few bugs left in the design.

The issues with the modchip PCB itself are listed here. Additionally, inserting a cable into the modchips USB socket too forcefully can cause the modchip PCB to snap in half, which is bad.

Wifi interposer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Wifi interposer use?

The Wifi interposer is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Wifi interposer PCB?

The Wifi interposer measures 51.3 × 21 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 0.799999 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wifi interposer?

51 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wifi interposer design files?

From the dsi-modchip/pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wifi interposer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which dsi-modchip chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Wifi interposer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
