About the Cloudboard rev1 PCB

Cloudboard rev1 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by goog-yaml, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 69.5 × 63 mm, with 37 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-2, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3, BME680, MPU-9250 and FT231XQ. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 7 capacitors, 5 ICs, 4 connectors, 4 diodes and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts, sensors and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

Mk1 is the internal name of this project. I am using this as a way to learn about PCB design and embedded systems and make a "final" out of it. The "final" that I have made is a simple, low-cost, ESP32-S3 development board. I originally added tons of sensors and complexity but shaved them off to make the project more attainable.

The "final" that I have made is a simple, low-cost, ESP32-S3 development board. I originally added tons of sensors and complexity but shaved them off to make the project more attainable. The board functions similar to most other boards, boasting a USB to Serial converter, a sample IMU sensor for SPI testing, and extra essentials like auto reset circuits and a voltage regulator. The board has gone well but I advise most to not use any of these designs…

Cloudboard rev1: common questions

What microcontroller does the Cloudboard rev1 use?

The Cloudboard rev1 is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-2, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Cloudboard rev1 PCB?

The Cloudboard rev1 measures 69.5 × 63 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.599978 mm thick.

How many components are on the Cloudboard rev1?

37 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Cloudboard rev1 design files?

From the goog-yaml/simple-devboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Cloudboard rev1 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with goog-yaml. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Cloudboard rev1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
