About the Thermal sensor PCB

Thermal sensor is an open source PCB design by hicancan, published on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 12 × 12 mm, with 4 components from 4 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the TMP302BDRLR. By type, the board carries 1 IC, 1 connector, 1 capacitor and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

CARBENTRA smart plug: AIoT edge device for campus energy orchestration

ROUTED DEVELOPMENT CANDIDATES / FABRICATION AND ENERGIZATION HOLD. The pin-connected circuit has separate 45 × 35 mm controller and 12 × 12 mm sensor-head PCBs, component footprints and a machine-readable manifest. These are digitally checked source boards, not a certified protective circuit or tested thermal assembly. EVT-A was not modified.

The circuit adds independent hardware permission in series with the 5 V relay coil supply. The existing MCU low-side relay driver still controls ordinary on/off operation, but cannot energize the coil while the thermal permission is cleared.

Thermal sensor: common questions

How big is the Thermal sensor PCB?

The Thermal sensor measures 12 × 12 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Thermal sensor?

4 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Thermal sensor design files?

From the hicancan/carbentra-smart-plug repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Thermal sensor design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its AGPL-3.0 license, which hicancan chose for the repository.
