About the Candidate lv PCB

Candidate lv is an open source ESP32 PCB design by hicancan, published on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 72 × 68 mm, with 33 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02U-N4, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AP63203WU-7 and TMP102AIDRLR. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 7 capacitors, 5 connectors, 3 ICs, 1 transistor and 1 relay.

It belongs with the rf & radio and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

CARBENTRA smart plug: AIoT edge device for campus energy orchestration

Editable KiCad 9 schematic and two-layer 72×68 mm PCB; upstream-symbol-derived pin geometry; 33 placed electrical components plus 4 mounting holes (37 footprints); real net assignments; fully connected isolated low-voltage routing (digital connectivity only); true KiCad ERC/DRC reports; BOM candidate sources; board/package STEP, FreeCAD and OBJ; regenerated PDF/SVG review drawings. This is a development source release with FABRICATION HOLD, not a finished appliance circuit or a safe prototype to energize.

Candidate lv: common questions

What microcontroller does the Candidate lv use?

The Candidate lv is built around the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02U-N4, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Candidate lv PCB?

The Candidate lv measures 72 × 68 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Candidate lv?

33 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Candidate lv design files?

From the hicancan/carbentra-smart-plug repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Candidate lv design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its AGPL-3.0 license, which hicancan chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Candidate lv without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
