About the ReflowOven PCB

ReflowOven is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by hjf, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 58.4 × 101.6 mm, with 45 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the MOC3063M, HLK-PM03 and MAX31856. By type, the board carries 16 resistors, 12 capacitors, 7 connectors, 5 ICs, 3 diodes and 1 fuse.

Hardware and Firmware for an ESP8266-based reflow oven controller

This is a simple PID controller with a web interface for a reflow oven. It requires a MAX31856, a K-type thermocouple, a MOC3041 optotriac, a suitable triac for your mains voltage, and a ESP-12E module.

The Arduino-based firmware is included. It requres tzapu's WiFiManager to set up. It also includes ArduinoOTA for remote firmware upgrades.

The KiCAD files are available too, but this is a simple circuit that can, obviously, be built out of standard arduino modules. Instead of the triac and optotriac, a SSR (Solid State Relay) can be used. A mechanical relay cannot be used as this circuit…

ReflowOven: common questions

What microcontroller does the ReflowOven use?

The ReflowOven is built around the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the ReflowOven PCB?

The ReflowOven measures 58.4 × 101.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ReflowOven?

45 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ReflowOven design files?

From the hjf/ReflowOven repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ReflowOven design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which hjf chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ReflowOven without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
