About the RykerConnect PCB

RykerConnect is an open source ESP32 PCB design by JanB97, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 102 × 34 mm, with 31 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, MCP9808_MSOP, DS3231MZ/V+T and LMR50410Y3FQDBVRQ1. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 6 resistors, 5 ICs, 4 connectors, 2 switches and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the displays & leds and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Addon Media Display for CanAm Ryker

This Project contains a firmware for a esp32s3 that is build on PlattformIO and the Arduino Core, an Android Companion App to get data on the Display and a simple ESP32S3 Board design to fit within a 3D printed case. I will publish all the projects; however, please keep in mind that I am neither a hardware designer nor a software engineer, so pretty much all of this is messy. It works, but that is a miracle. Originally I did intend for this to have many features (e.g., show the weather, maybe map navigation, and more), but my development skills are not good enough right now.

RykerConnect: common questions

What microcontroller does the RykerConnect use?

The RykerConnect is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the RykerConnect PCB?

The RykerConnect measures 102 × 34 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the RykerConnect?

31 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RykerConnect design files?

From the JanB97/RykerConnect repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RykerConnect design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which JanB97 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the RykerConnect without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
