From the project

Chicken coop door opener with Sigfox connectivity, solar charging and environmental sensing

This repository contains hardware design files as well as firmware source code for a chicken coop controller board. The tiny controller (approx. 50x50mm) automatically opens and closes the chicken coop's door at scheduled times of day. It also transmits environmental data (e.g. temperature, humidity) via the Sigfox network and uses a solar chell to recharge a connected lead-acid battery.

Sigfox chicken coop: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sigfox chicken coop use?

The Sigfox chicken coop is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32U, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Sigfox chicken coop PCB?

The Sigfox chicken coop measures 50 × 53 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Sigfox chicken coop?

99 components, from 64 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sigfox chicken coop design files?

From the Jeija/sigfox-chicken-coop repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sigfox chicken coop design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Jeija. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Sigfox chicken coop without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
