About the Base board

Base board is an open source ESP32 PCB design by jorisplusplus, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 119.8 × 129.8 mm, with 230 components from 55 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-P4, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the TPS53318DQPR, TPS56637RPAR, HUSB238, TLV62569DBV and W25Q128JVS. By type, the board carries 116 capacitors, 73 resistors, 15 connectors, 14 inductors, 9 ICs and 1 transistor.

From the project

FPGA base pcdock

The goal of this project is to make a device that can pipe displayport and USB 3 signals over a single 25 gbps fiber and provide kvm switch to switch between different sources.

For this project the Xilinx FPGA XCKU5P-2FFVB676I has been chosen. It has 16 transceivers capable of 25 gbps and is reasonably priced at around 80 euros. The hardware is broken up into various pieces, this is to reduce production costs by being able to reuse parts and reduce costs for prototyping if mistakes are made.

Base board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Base board use?

The Base board is built around the ESP32-P4, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Base board?

The Base board measures 119.8 × 129.8 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Base board?

230 components, from 55 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Base board design files?

From the jorisplusplus/pcdock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Base board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jorisplusplus. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Base board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
