About the Badge PCB

Badge is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Las-Vejas, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 73.5 × 47.5 mm, with 66 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the ZD25WQ32CEIGR, USBLC6-2SC6, NCP1117-3.3_SOT223, FPC-05F-24PH20 and ST25DV04K-JFR6D3. By type, the board carries 28 capacitors, 15 resistors, 7 switches, 6 ICs, 5 diodes and 2 inductors.

It belongs with the displays & leds and wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

An E-ink badge run by RP2040, with NFC capabilities.

VejasBadge is a compact wearable badge built around the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller. It features an E-ink display, NFC via the ST25DV04K, and is powered over USB-C with battery charging support.

It will be used to display info like my name, website and a photo of some sort. If the NFC coil works, I will add functionality, to choose the info transmitted by the NFC tag so you could share multiple website links. I would also like to use it as an ebook reader, but there may not be enough storage for that.

Badge: common questions

What microcontroller does the Badge use?

The Badge is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Badge PCB?

The Badge measures 73.5 × 47.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Badge?

66 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Badge design files?

From the Las-Vejas/badge repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Badge design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which Las-Vejas chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Badge without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
