About the Breadboard-Power-Supply PCB

Breadboard-Power-Supply is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by leboeuf-dup, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board, with 36 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM311, CD4053B, TL2575-05IN and LM317. By type, the board carries 10 capacitors, 7 connectors, 5 ICs, 4 switches, 4 resistors and 3 inductors.

It belongs with the displays & leds, power & battery and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Designed a breadboard power supply with a display to show the measured voltage across two probes.

A breadboard power supply that also measures and displays voltage across two probes, built as a group project. It was designed to provide regulated power (either 5 V or 3.3V at up to 1 A) directly through the breadboard rails, with an LCD1605 display driven by an ATmega328-P for real-time voltage readout.

One hiccup during development: the ordered ATmega328-P turned out to actually be an ATmega328-PU, which the Arduino bootloader software wouldn't recognize. To prove the display logic worked, the microcontroller was pulled directly out of a…

Breadboard-Power-Supply: common questions

What microcontroller does the Breadboard-Power-Supply use?

The Breadboard-Power-Supply is built around the ATmega328-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Breadboard-Power-Supply PCB?

The Breadboard-Power-Supply has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Breadboard-Power-Supply?

36 components, from 30 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Breadboard-Power-Supply design files?

From the leboeuf-dup/Breadboard-Power-Supply repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Breadboard-Power-Supply design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with leboeuf-dup. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Breadboard-Power-Supply without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
