About the Picoclock PCB

Picoclock is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by locked, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 175.8 × 64 mm, with 86 components from 47 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the PCF8563T, MCP9808_MSOP, PCM5100, PAM8302A and MCP23009-SO. By type, the board carries 28 capacitors, 18 resistors, 14 connectors, 7 ICs, 6 switches and 4 diodes.

This repo is an attempt at building a Pico based alarm clock. It was created for my kids and features:

- date/time (obviously) - alarm (plays wav file on sdcard) - weather (current and forecast) - epaper screen - 3d printable case

The configuration is done remotely, and the clock synchronize from time to time (it can be forced too). The time is also fetched from a remote server.

Picoclock: common questions

What microcontroller does the Picoclock use?

The Picoclock is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Picoclock PCB?

The Picoclock measures 175.8 × 64 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Picoclock?

86 components, from 47 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Picoclock design files?

From the locked/picoclock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Picoclock design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with locked. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Picoclock without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
