About the Mainboard PCB

Mainboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by matgla, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 124 components from 50 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2350_80QFN, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the SN74HCS151PWR, AP2210, LD1117S50TR_SOT223, TLV320DAC3203IRGET and BD9D321EFJ. By type, the board carries 57 capacitors, 26 resistors, 15 connectors, 11 ICs, 10 diodes and 3 inductors.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

Repository for MSPC hardware design

Hardware for MSPC: a small modular computer built from a mainboard and extension cards that plug into the MSPC bus. The mainboard runs yasos.

Every board is a KiCad project with its fabrication outputs next to it in outputs/.

- The projects are in KiCad 8 format. Newer KiCad versions upgrade them on the first save, and the result no longer opens in KiCad 8. Do such an upgrade as its own commit, with no design changes, so later diffs stay readable. - Schematic PDFs (outputs/schematic.pdf) are tracked, so the schematics can be read without KiCad. Gerbers and drill files are not: plot them…

Mainboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Mainboard use?

The Mainboard is built around the RP2350_80QFN, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Mainboard PCB?

The Mainboard measures 100 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.0198 mm thick.

How many components are on the Mainboard?

124 components, from 50 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Mainboard design files?

From the matgla/mspc repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Mainboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which matgla chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Mainboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
