About the Airqualitymini PCB

Airqualitymini is an open source ESP32 PCB design by MorgenWebDigital, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40 × 40 mm, with 32 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02-N4, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the XC6222A331MR-G, SCD40-D-R1, SHT41-AD1B-R2, T117Z and SGP41-D-R4. By type, the board carries 15 capacitors, 7 ICs, 7 resistors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A stationary indoor air quality sensor. Real CO₂, VOC and NOx, temperature and humidity. No display, no battery. Powered from USB-C, read out over Bluetooth LE.

The large AirQuality board is a portable instrument: battery, charger, fuel gauge, e-paper display, light sensor. This one strips all of that away and keeps only what measures the air.

What is left is a square the size of a large postage stamp with four sensors, a microcontroller and a regulator. It sits on a shelf, stays plugged in, and talks to a phone.

Airqualitymini: common questions

What microcontroller does the Airqualitymini use?

The Airqualitymini is built around the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02-N4, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Airqualitymini PCB?

The Airqualitymini measures 40 × 40 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Airqualitymini?

32 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Airqualitymini design files?

From the MorgenWebDigital/airqualitymini repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Airqualitymini design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Airqualitymini without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
