About the Turntable rotator PCB

Turntable rotator is an open source ESP32 PCB design by MTalon63, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 57 components from 33 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AT24CS64-SSHM, USBLC6-2SC6, LM2596S-3.3 and Pololu_Breakout_DRV8825. By type, the board carries 21 capacitors, 11 connectors, 9 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 modules and 4 switches.

It belongs with the robotics & motion and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

- In theory amazing azimuth control step resolution of 0.02 degrees - All parts can be 3D printed - Uses off the shelf NEMA 17 stepper motors and drivers - Multi-use architecture:tm: - Universal controller board that can be used for other projects as well

In a nutshell, this project is a simple antenna rotator (could be used for photogrammetry?) that uses a belt driven turntable to rotate the azimuth of the antenna. Elevation has not been implemented yet, but thanks to modular design you can mount an antenna on the turntable and use it as a simple rotator for azimuth only, attach fixed…

Turntable rotator: common questions

What microcontroller does the Turntable rotator use?

The Turntable rotator is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Turntable rotator PCB?

The Turntable rotator measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Turntable rotator?

57 components, from 33 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Turntable rotator design files?

From the MTalon63/turntable-rotator repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Turntable rotator design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which MTalon63 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Turntable rotator without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
