About the Leyden Jar controller PCB

Leyden Jar controller is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by mymakercorner, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 85 × 26.5 mm, with 82 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q16JVUXIQ, LMV339, USBLC6-2SC6, ADP122AUJZ-3.3-R7 and C141380. By type, the board carries 50 resistors, 20 capacitors, 8 ICs, 1 crystal, 1 connector and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A modernized controller PCB for the Brand New Model F and Beam Spring keyboards

The Leyden Jar is a modernized controller PCB for the Brand New Model F and Beam Spring keyboards. The name is taken from the first ever (crude) capacitor ever invented.

Please have a look at the Keebtalk here for more details on the development process. This repository is the central hub of several other repositories and links that may be need to build or dowloand software firmware and tools, see chapter below for more details.

Leyden Jar controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Leyden Jar controller use?

The Leyden Jar controller is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Leyden Jar controller PCB?

The Leyden Jar controller measures 85 × 26.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.59 mm thick.

How many components are on the Leyden Jar controller?

82 components, from 22 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Leyden Jar controller design files?

From the mymakercorner/Leyden_Jar repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Leyden Jar controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which mymakercorner chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Leyden Jar controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
