About the Whitefox PCB

Whitefox is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by nxrmqlly, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 41 × 61.6 mm, with 73 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2350B-QFN80, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q128JVS, AMS1117-3.3, TP4056-42-ESOP8 and USBLC6-2P6. By type, the board carries 34 capacitors, 11 diodes, 11 resistors, 6 ICs, 6 connectors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

rp2350b chonky devboard

whitefox is a Raspberry Pi RP2350B based devboard with 47 exposed GPIO, a 3x3 neopixel grid, a charging circuit and a MicroSD card reader onboard! Some may even say that it is batteries included but sorry we don't include batteries :(

I wanted to have a go at making a devboard so I initially thought of using the RP2040 Chip but that thing is old now and very overused so here we are with the RP2040's successor, the RP2350! Most RP2350 boards (like the Raspberry Pi Pico 2) use the QFN-60 layout on the RP2350A chip and I haven't really seen devboards use the RP2350B, which is a QFN-80 chip…

Whitefox: common questions

What microcontroller does the Whitefox use?

The Whitefox is built around the RP2350B-QFN80, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Whitefox PCB?

The Whitefox measures 41 × 61.6 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Whitefox?

73 components, from 26 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Whitefox design files?

From the nxrmqlly/whitefox repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Whitefox design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which nxrmqlly chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Whitefox without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
