Sensing hardware and software

Repository for all Olin Rocketry hardware and firmware.

The purpose of the avionics system is to determine when to deploy the drogue and main chutes, and to send the signal to do so to the recovery system. The flight computer contains several sensors to help detect apogee, and a microcontroller to read and process the data and send the signal.

- a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) flight computer; - a student-designed flight computer, which includes sensors, microcontroller, GPS, and radio; and - a student-designed battery management system (BMS).

REV1 FALL 2021: common questions

What microcontroller does the REV1 FALL 2021 use?

The REV1 FALL 2021 is built around the Teensy3.6_All_Pins, from the NXP family.

How big is the REV1 FALL 2021 PCB?

The REV1 FALL 2021 measures 146 × 133.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the REV1 FALL 2021?

46 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the REV1 FALL 2021 design files?

From the Olin-Rocketry/sensing repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the REV1 FALL 2021 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Olin-Rocketry. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the REV1 FALL 2021 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
