About the Antenna board

Antenna board is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Olin-Rocketry, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 88.9 × 92.5 mm, with 25 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKITC, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LM3940IT-3.3/NOPB, TLC5916IN and IRF4905PBF. By type, the board carries 12 ICs, 9 resistors, 3 capacitors and 1 connector.

It belongs with the rf & radio, sensors and power & battery designs in this gallery.

Sensing hardware and software

Repository for all Olin Rocketry hardware and firmware.

The purpose of the avionics system is to determine when to deploy the drogue and main chutes, and to send the signal to do so to the recovery system. The flight computer contains several sensors to help detect apogee, and a microcontroller to read and process the data and send the signal.

- a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) flight computer; - a student-designed flight computer, which includes sensors, microcontroller, GPS, and radio; and - a student-designed battery management system (BMS).

Antenna board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Antenna board use?

The Antenna board is built around the ESP32-DEVKITC, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Antenna board?

The Antenna board measures 88.9 × 92.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Antenna board?

25 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Antenna board design files?

From the Olin-Rocketry/sensing repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Antenna board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Olin-Rocketry. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Antenna board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
