About the Pmd tracker PCB

Pmd tracker is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by ollielarkins, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 45 × 30 mm, with 30 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the MAX-M10S-00B, ADXL372BCCZ-RL7, LSM6DSOTR, MCP73831T-2ACI/OT and AP2112K-3.3TRG1. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 7 resistors, 6 ICs, 3 connectors and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, wearables and power & battery designs in this gallery.

Wearable rugby performance tracker: nRF52840 + Zephyr firmware, React Native companion app

A wearable performance tracker for rugby. It sits in a jersey pouch between the shoulder blades, records a player's match, and syncs the results to a companion app for review after the game.

KiCad 3D render of the 45 x 30 mm 4-layer board (not yet fabricated).

1. Sensing. A u-blox MAX-M10S GNSS module gives position at 10 Hz. An ADXL372 high-g accelerometer (±200 g) catches impacts that a normal IMU would clip. An LSM6DSO 6-axis IMU is part of the design but is not used by the metrics yet. 2. On-device metrics. The nRF52840 runs Zephyr RTOS. Every fix and accel sample goes through…

Pmd tracker: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pmd tracker use?

The Pmd tracker is built around the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Pmd tracker PCB?

The Pmd tracker measures 45 × 30 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pmd tracker?

30 components, from 19 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pmd tracker design files?

From the ollielarkins/pmd-tracker repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pmd tracker design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ollielarkins. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Pmd tracker without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
