About the Principal V3 PCB

Principal V3 is an open source NXP PCB design by PCBrs, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70.8 × 87.9 mm, with 74 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TEENSY 4.1, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the 4504, SN65HVD232 and Pololu_Breakout_DRV8825. By type, the board carries 32 resistors, 12 connectors, 10 capacitors, 8 transistors, 6 diodes and 3 ICs.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

Principal V3: common questions

What microcontroller does the Principal V3 use?

The Principal V3 is built around the TEENSY 4.1, from the NXP family.

How big is the Principal V3 PCB?

The Principal V3 measures 70.8 × 87.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Principal V3?

74 components, from 30 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Principal V3 design files?

From the PCBrs/CDR-Electronique repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Principal V3 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with PCBrs. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Principal V3 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
