About the IoT Messenger PCB

IoT Messenger is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by PR77, published on GitHub under the LGPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 76.2 × 46.9 mm, with 58 components from 37 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-12F, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the MCP73831-2-OT, LM1117-3.3 and DHT11. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 16 capacitors, 5 connectors, 4 ICs, 4 switches and 4 LEDs.

It belongs with the displays & leds, power & battery and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

IoT Messenger (Pager) For Simple 1 Way Communication

Interfacing with the device is via the Web using the simple HTTP Server class. The IoT Messenger sends out a webpage where the message and other functions can be accessed. As my HTML and JS skills are not up there, I have resorted to using CURL during development and debugging - HELP NEEDED! :)

There are 4 buttons for user input which can also be used for additional functions (see how Tetris and Dino game use them).

IoT Messenger: common questions

What microcontroller does the IoT Messenger use?

The IoT Messenger is built around the ESP-12F, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the IoT Messenger PCB?

The IoT Messenger measures 76.2 × 46.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the IoT Messenger?

58 components, from 37 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the IoT Messenger design files?

From the PR77/IoT_Messenger repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the IoT Messenger design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its LGPL-3.0 license, which PR77 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the IoT Messenger without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
