About the Unijoysticle2-c16 PCB

Unijoysticle2-c16 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by ricardoquesada, published on GitHub under the SHL-2.1 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40.4 × 74.4 mm, with 25 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32 MINI KIT, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the 74HCT240. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 4 capacitors, 3 diodes, 2 ICs, 2 connectors and 1 switch.

It belongs with the retro computing and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Bluetooth gamepad support for the Commodore 64 / Atari / Amiga, etc.

This board is specifically designed for the TED series of Commodore computers (c16, c116 and Plus/4) and it is based on the work of Levente Hársfalvi

It uses the same firmware as the C64 version and works exactly the same, except for two particularities:

- Joystick \#1 and \#2 are swapped (default joystick in c16 games is usually \#1) - The board can be self-powered or USB-powered, there is no barrel jack

Unijoysticle2-c16: common questions

What microcontroller does the Unijoysticle2-c16 use?

The Unijoysticle2-c16 is built around the ESP32 MINI KIT, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Unijoysticle2-c16 PCB?

The Unijoysticle2-c16 measures 40.4 × 74.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the Unijoysticle2-c16?

25 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Unijoysticle2-c16 design files?

From the ricardoquesada/unijoysticle2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Unijoysticle2-c16 design in my own project?

It is published under SHL-2.1, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Unijoysticle2-c16 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
