About the Arduino Micro PCB

Arduino Micro is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by sabogalc, published on GitHub under the WTFPL license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 48.3 × 17.8 mm, with 44 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4-XUMU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the NCP1117-5.0_SOT223 and LP2985-3.3. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 11 resistors, 5 diodes, 4 connectors, 3 ICs and 2 transistors.

From the project

A collection of Arduino boards recreated from scratch in KiCad. Legacy USB connectors have been replaced with USB-C where applicable.

This board is not much bigger than the Nano, but it brings benefits such as the full-sized reset switch and four more IO pins.

Arduino Micro: common questions

What microcontroller does the Arduino Micro use?

The Arduino Micro is built around the ATMEGA32U4-XUMU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Arduino Micro PCB?

The Arduino Micro measures 48.3 × 17.8 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Arduino Micro?

44 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Arduino Micro design files?

From the sabogalc/KiCad-Arduino-Boards repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Arduino Micro design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its WTFPL license, which sabogalc chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Arduino Micro without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
