About the Arduino Uno (Type-C) PCB

Arduino Uno (Type-C) is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by sabogalc, published on GitHub under the WTFPL license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68.6 × 53.3 mm, with 51 components from 33 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA16U2-MU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the NCP1117-5.0_SOT223, LP2985-3.3, ATMEGA328P-PU and LMV358IDGKR. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 9 connectors, 8 resistors, 7 diodes, 5 ICs and 2 crystals.

From the project

A collection of Arduino boards recreated from scratch in KiCad. Legacy USB connectors have been replaced with USB-C where applicable.

If you are taking the parts from an OEM UNO like I did, I recommend using low-melt solder to aid in the desoldering of through-hole components. The surface mount components come off easily enough with hot air, but when removing the reset switch or electrolytic capacitors, try to heat them from the bottom of the board to avoid applying too much direct heat.

Below are the screenshots of this board from KiCad's 3D board viewer.

Arduino Uno (Type-C): common questions

What microcontroller does the Arduino Uno (Type-C) use?

The Arduino Uno (Type-C) is built around the ATMEGA16U2-MU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Arduino Uno (Type-C) PCB?

The Arduino Uno (Type-C) measures 68.6 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Arduino Uno (Type-C)?

51 components, from 33 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Arduino Uno (Type-C) design files?

From the sabogalc/KiCad-Arduino-Boards repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Arduino Uno (Type-C) design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its WTFPL license, which sabogalc chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Arduino Uno (Type-C) without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
