The TrebleSynth is a "Modular Synth on a Chip" based on the Raspberry Pi Pico. It is a through-hole design that is easy to assemble yourself and uses only inexpensive generic parts that are widely available to minimize costs. One can create various modules on the chip and interconnect them by specifying which unit takes input from another input, assign the controls of these modules to potentiometers, and then adjust the potentiometers to achieve your desired sound. It also has a fully capable effects module on the chip as well. The modular synth supports six note polyphony.

TrebleSynth: common questions

What microcontroller does the TrebleSynth use?

The TrebleSynth is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the TrebleSynth PCB?

The TrebleSynth measures 236 × 128 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TrebleSynth?

210 components, from 43 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TrebleSynth design files?

From the sinitsinmike/TrebleSynth repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TrebleSynth design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with sinitsinmike. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the TrebleSynth without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
