About the Bkm-10rlternative PCB

Bkm-10rlternative is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by skumlos, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 210.8 × 74.9 mm, with 244 components from 54 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328PB-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LVC2G14, 74HC14, TSOP382xx, MAX491E and MCP23S17_SS. By type, the board carries 117 resistors, 55 capacitors, 36 switches, 19 ICs, 14 transistors and 1 crystal.

From the project

Project aiming to replicate the BKM-10R/11R remote for Sony professional CRT monitors.

BKM-10Rlternative, a plug-and-play replacement for the BKM-10R/11R (except for memory card, for now).

Inspired by Aaron Bonhams BKM-10Rduino, which is genious!

Still early, and there's a LOT of components, plus some tweaks might still be needed: Button RC-filters, as I feel that the 10nF should be replaced with 100nF, but needs testing. LED current limiting resistors is of course a preference. I used 470 Ohm in my first prototype. UART CTS/RTS pins are sorta irrelevant, as they're set static anyways. Removing these would also free up pins for porting to regular Atmega328P/Arduino Nano 3.0…

Bkm-10rlternative: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bkm-10rlternative use?

The Bkm-10rlternative is built around the ATmega328PB-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Bkm-10rlternative PCB?

The Bkm-10rlternative measures 210.8 × 74.9 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bkm-10rlternative?

244 components, from 54 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bkm-10rlternative design files?

From the skumlos/bkm-10rlternative repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bkm-10rlternative design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with skumlos. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Bkm-10rlternative without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
