About the TRANCE USB-DMX PCB

TRANCE USB-DMX is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Soraxem, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 44 × 20 mm, with 21 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-MINI-1U, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3, USBLC6-2SC6 and MAX485E. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 6 resistors, 4 ICs, 2 connectors, 1 switch and 1 diode.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open Lighting hardware

The USB DMX Model is a device that has an USB plug that delivers dmx data instead of usb data. This makes the Device compatible with all DMX-over-USB devices in lighting technology.

The Company Steinigke showtechnic has some fixtures with such a Port. These Ports are originally designed for their WirelessDMX and QuickDMX devices, wich essentially are CRMX adapters. This Project is in now way affiliated with XRMC or Steinigke showtechnic.

TRANCE USB-DMX: common questions

What microcontroller does the TRANCE USB-DMX use?

The TRANCE USB-DMX is built around the ESP32-S3-MINI-1U, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the TRANCE USB-DMX PCB?

The TRANCE USB-DMX measures 44 × 20 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TRANCE USB-DMX?

21 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TRANCE USB-DMX design files?

From the Soraxem/trance repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TRANCE USB-DMX design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which Soraxem chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the TRANCE USB-DMX without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
