About the Dryer PCB

Dryer is an open source ESP32 PCB design by souptik-samanta, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 50 × 50 mm, with 31 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the DS18B20 and L7805. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 8 connectors, 4 diodes, 3 ICs, 3 transistors and 2 capacitors.

It belongs with the displays & leds and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A custom PCB and self-centering spool holder for drying 3D printer filament. The PCB controls the fans, monitors temperature, and provides connections for PTC heaters. The design is modular, making it easy to replace or upgrade the heater when needed.

I made this because I needed a filament dryer. Instead of buying one, I designed my own PCB and spool holder with the features I wanted.

Dryer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dryer use?

The Dryer is built around the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Dryer PCB?

The Dryer measures 50 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dryer?

31 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dryer design files?

From the souptik-samanta/dryer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dryer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with souptik-samanta. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Dryer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
