About the Floating hub PCB

Floating hub is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by stef1029, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 31.1 × 30 mm, with 36 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the BMD-340-A-R, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the NPM1300-CAAA-R7, SN65HVD75DGKR, LSM6DSV32XTR and MMC5983MA. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 9 resistors, 6 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 diodes and 1 switch.

It belongs with the power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Head-fixed floating platform for studying sensory-guided spatial orienting in mice — hardware, firmware and control software.

Central nRF52840-based hub board for the behavioural rig. Korora provides:

- RS-485 master communication to peripheral boards - Differential SYNC distribution to peripheral boards - System time authority and synchronization - 9-DoF motion/orientation sensing - LiPo battery charging and power-path management - Battery / power telemetry to the nRF52840 - 3V3 and VLOAD distribution over the peripheral harness - USB/SWD-style development and debug access as appropriate for the final PCB

Floating hub: common questions

What microcontroller does the Floating hub use?

The Floating hub is built around the BMD-340-A-R, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Floating hub PCB?

The Floating hub measures 31.1 × 30 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Floating hub?

36 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Floating hub design files?

From the stef1029/trilab-floating-platform repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Floating hub design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with stef1029. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Floating hub without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
