About the Bed occupancy PCB

Bed occupancy is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by thorio, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 74.9 × 58.4 mm, with 11 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-01S, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the HX711 and mini-360. By type, the board carries 7 connectors, 3 ICs and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

collection of open home automation projects

My first PCB design, very basic, using exclusively THT components and mostly pre-build modules.

This is mostly for archival purposes; I can't recommend using the ESP-01S as I've had connectivity issues.

I had to rip out some of the reference models from the Fusion 360 CAD drawings because I don't have the rights to them. This leaves the references all jumbled, sorry about that.

Bed occupancy: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bed occupancy use?

The Bed occupancy is built around the ESP-01S, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Bed occupancy PCB?

The Bed occupancy measures 74.9 × 58.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bed occupancy?

11 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bed occupancy design files?

From the thorio/esphome-projects repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bed occupancy design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which thorio chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Bed occupancy without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
