From the project

The 68k Playground, a 680x0-based home-brew computer with multiple CPU options

The 68030 Mk I is intended as a relatively modest Unix machine. It sports the following features:

68030 CPU + 68882 FPU running at 25MHz. Up to 256MB of 60ns dynamic RAM (as 2x 128MB 72-pin SIMMs). 4MB of 10ns static RAM. 1MB of flash ROM containing system firmware. 2 16550-compatible serial ports (provided by a TL16C2552). An ATA disk interface supporting 1 or 2 drives. A 10Mb/s twisted pair Ethernet interface (provided by an RTL8019AS). An I2C interface (provided by a PCF8584) and real-time clock/calendar with battery backup (provided by a DS3231). A system timer. An expansion port with…

Playground 68030 Mk I: common questions

What microcontroller does the Playground 68030 Mk I use?

The Playground 68030 Mk I is built around the ATtiny85-20P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Playground 68030 Mk I PCB?

The Playground 68030 Mk I measures 259.9 × 154.9 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Playground 68030 Mk I?

227 components, from 75 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Playground 68030 Mk I design files?

From the thorpej/pg68k repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Playground 68030 Mk I design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with thorpej. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Playground 68030 Mk I without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
