From the project

Tiny IBM PC compatible machine with 386 CPU, integrated VGA and sound.

To upload firmware you need USB-UART adapter with 3.3V signal levels. Connect GND, RX and TX lines to esp header located on main PCB at left, install BOOT/GND jumper and follow any ESP8266 firmware update guide that is available on the internet.

Top PCB: Rev.A - first release. Please note the errata; Rev.A1 - fixed all rev.A issues; added switch for VGA BIOS variant select; removed VGA-disable switch; added EEPROM for ES1868.

PC-KHARON-386-MAIN: common questions

What microcontroller does the PC-KHARON-386-MAIN use?

The PC-KHARON-386-MAIN is built around the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the PC-KHARON-386-MAIN PCB?

The PC-KHARON-386-MAIN measures 100 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 4.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the PC-KHARON-386-MAIN?

157 components, from 75 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PC-KHARON-386-MAIN design files?

From the UzixLS/pc-kharon-386 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PC-KHARON-386-MAIN design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which UzixLS chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the PC-KHARON-386-MAIN without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
