About the ESP32-S3-Platform PCB

ESP32-S3-Platform is an open source ESP32 PCB design by WhirlingBits, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 97.5 × 90.6 mm, with 176 components from 51 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LTC3111EMSEPBF and CP2102N-A02-GQFN24. By type, the board carries 114 resistors, 25 capacitors, 19 diodes, 9 connectors, 3 ICs and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the power & battery, iot & wireless and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

ESP32-S3 Development Board with SD-Card and versatile power management 5V and up to 12V

Thanx to the buck/boost capability of the LTC3111 used the external power input voltage may supply a voltage between 3..15V.

Alternatively it is possible to use an external battery controller (e.g. Sparkfun Babysitter) which is connected on J5 whereas J5.4 (+5VD) will be the input for the controller and J5.1,2 the output.

ESP32-S3-Platform: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESP32-S3-Platform use?

The ESP32-S3-Platform is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESP32-S3-Platform PCB?

The ESP32-S3-Platform measures 97.5 × 90.6 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESP32-S3-Platform?

176 components, from 51 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESP32-S3-Platform design files?

From the WhirlingBits/ESP32-S3-Platform repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESP32-S3-Platform design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which WhirlingBits chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ESP32-S3-Platform without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
