Leopold FC980C Replacement Controller =====================================

This PCB replaces the controller of the Leopold FC980C keyboard to allow running alternate firmware, especially open source firmware such as [QMK][QMK]. This project relies heavily on the prior reverse engineering work done by hasu (aka tmk) and collaborators.

This is the first PCB I have designed and as such I suspect this will have many areas that can be improved. I am very much looking forward to hearing feedback about this design, if you think something can be improved please open an issue and let me know. I…

Fc980c controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fc980c controller use?

The Fc980c controller is built around the STM32F401CBUX, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Fc980c controller PCB?

The Fc980c controller measures 82.3 × 35.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fc980c controller?

36 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fc980c controller design files?

From the wlhlm/fc980c-controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fc980c controller design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with wlhlm. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Fc980c controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
