About the Travel router PCB

Travel router is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by 0x62b, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80 × 80 mm, with 49 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ComputeModule5-CM5, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the TPD2E2U06DCK, AP2553W6, RT9742SNGV, 476591100 and TPD4EUSB30. By type, the board carries 20 capacitors, 12 ICs, 7 resistors, 4 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

CM5 travel router carrier board with dual 1G ethernet, wifi

Functions: Dual 1G ethernet Wifi through onboard antenna and USB Support for LTE/5G dongle over USB 80x80mm board, portable case

As you can see by the cost breakdown later, this project is not economical at all if you want to build it from scratch and don't have a CM5 already. However, if you already have a CM5, this can be used just like any other carrier board.

Travel router: common questions

What microcontroller does the Travel router use?

The Travel router is built around the ComputeModule5-CM5, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Travel router PCB?

The Travel router measures 80 × 80 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Travel router?

49 components, from 27 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Travel router design files?

From the 0x62b/travel-router repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Travel router design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with 0x62b. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Travel router without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
