Inspired by Github Universe 2024 badge

A DIY Custom Designed, Monochrome, E-Ink display badge powered by the RP2350A, inspired by the GitHub Universe 2024 conference badge. ~Kinda wanted to see how many words I could describe it with.

- MCU: The mighty RP2350A I wish the RP2354A were in stock though - Flash: 16MB onboard but do I want it to remember? - Power: Integrated battery management for a single-cell LiPo, does it charge idk - Display: E-Ink support over SPI, this was painful for part selection - Software: No dedicated firmware/software yet — I'm considering adapting the Badger 2040 software from the GitHub Universe…

E-Ink-Badge: common questions

What microcontroller does the E-Ink-Badge use?

The E-Ink-Badge is built around the C42411118, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the E-Ink-Badge PCB?

The E-Ink-Badge measures 77.5 × 48.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the E-Ink-Badge?

78 components, from 42 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the E-Ink-Badge design files?

From the Acidicts/E-Ink-Badge repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the E-Ink-Badge design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Acidicts. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the E-Ink-Badge without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
