About the PowerDistributionBoard PCB

PowerDistributionBoard is an open source ESP32 PCB design by AnmolS-EE, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 90 × 90 mm, with 58 components from 42 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the XL4016, AMS1117-3.3, FUSB302BMPX, LM2596S-ADJ and INA226. By type, the board carries 20 resistors, 10 capacitors, 8 ICs, 6 connectors, 4 transistors and 4 diodes.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

A high-efficiency power distribution board (PDB) designed to convert a single DC input (24V/10A) into multiple regulated rails for laboratory and personal device charging.

Simulation Note (XL4016 vs. LT1074): The XL4016 used in the KiCad schematic doesn’t have a public SPICE model, so I used the Analog Devices LT1074 to simulate the circuit and verify the LC filter design and transient behavior.

Note: The feedback resistors in the simulation (1kΩ / 1.26kΩ) were chosen to match the LT1074’s 2.21V reference. On the actual PCB, I’m using (1kΩ / 3kΩ) based on the XL4016’s 1.25V reference.

PowerDistributionBoard: common questions

What microcontroller does the PowerDistributionBoard use?

The PowerDistributionBoard is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the PowerDistributionBoard PCB?

The PowerDistributionBoard measures 90 × 90 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PowerDistributionBoard?

58 components, from 42 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PowerDistributionBoard design files?

From the AnmolS-EE/PowerDistributionBoard-PCB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PowerDistributionBoard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which AnmolS-EE chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the PowerDistributionBoard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
