About the Gpstracker PCB

Gpstracker is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by blemasle, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 79.3 × 59.2 mm, with 65 components from 41 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the SIM808, MCP73831-2-OT, 24LC512, MCP1700T-3302E/TT and DS3231SN. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 19 resistors, 7 ICs, 7 LEDs, 6 connectors and 2 battery holders.

It belongs with the rf & radio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Connected GPS tracker PCB

A custom Arduino 2 layers PCB done with Kicad meant to be use with a dedicated firmware. The result is a high autonomy GPS tracker that can be use to track moving vehicules.

See the firmware repository for more info.

On top of that, several ICs are needed : SIM808 : GPRS & GPS. DS3231 : Real Time Clock, used for time keeping and battery saving. * 24LCxxx : EEPROM used to buffer raw data before sending.

Gpstracker: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gpstracker use?

The Gpstracker is built around the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Gpstracker PCB?

The Gpstracker measures 79.3 × 59.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gpstracker?

65 components, from 41 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gpstracker design files?

From the blemasle/gpstracker-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gpstracker design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which blemasle chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Gpstracker without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
