About the 6ch af preamplifier PCB

6ch af preamplifier is an open source PIC PCB design by dilshan, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 151.3 × 50.8 mm, with 115 components from 31 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC16F886-IP, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the uA7805, LM317T, LM337T, PT2258 and TL074. By type, the board carries 44 resistors, 40 capacitors, 17 connectors, 9 ICs, 3 transistors and 1 diode.

It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

5.1 channel audio preamplifier

This project introduces a digitally controlled 5.1 channel audio preamplifier system. This amplifier is specifically designed to increase the gain of the multi-channel PC sound cards.

This preamplifier consists of six TL074/TL072 preamplifier stages and PT2258 electronic volume control. The input stage of this preamplifier consists of six TL074/TL072 buffer stages. The PIC16F886 microcontroller manages the PT2258 electronic volume control IC. All the volume levels and menu options are displayed on HD44780, 16×2 character LCD screen.

The KiCad project lives in the dilshan/6ch-af-preamplifier repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

6ch af preamplifier: common questions

What microcontroller does the 6ch af preamplifier use?

The 6ch af preamplifier is built around the PIC16F886-IP, from the PIC family.

How big is the 6ch af preamplifier PCB?

The 6ch af preamplifier measures 151.3 × 50.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 6ch af preamplifier?

115 components, from 31 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 6ch af preamplifier design files?

From the dilshan/6ch-af-preamplifier repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 6ch af preamplifier design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which dilshan chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the 6ch af preamplifier without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
