A minimalist open source pocket sized¹ mp3 player\ \ (¹ if your pocket is big enough to fit a 115mmx50mmx20mm brick)

I bring my phone every time, everywhere I go. My main excuse is that I need it for music, but that's not usually what ends up happening... So I built this to have a dedicated music player that I could bring with me when I don't need a phone! (mainly high school or going for a walk)\ I also wanted to learn how to design a more complex & integrated pcb!\ \ If you find this cool, you should read the journal I kept while designing…

Mp3-player: common questions

What microcontroller does the Mp3-player use?

The Mp3-player is built around the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Mp3-player PCB?

The Mp3-player measures 52 × 115.8 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Mp3-player?

141 components, from 50 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Mp3-player design files?

From the espcaa/mp3-player repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Mp3-player design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Mp3-player without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
