About the Chart plotter hat

Chart plotter hat is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by gpgreen, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 65 × 56 mm, with 68 components from 44 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the DMG2305UX, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the ATmega328P-AU, CAT24C32, MPM3610-5.0-adafruit, LT1762EMS8-3.3 and G3VM-201FR. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 16 resistors, 11 ICs, 9 connectors, 5 diodes and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the rf & radio and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Kicad project for a raspberry pi hat. Monitors push button and turns on/off power. 8 channels of ADC available and some connectors for other peripherals. Onboard CAN device and transceiver connected to the raspberry pi

KiCad design for Raspberry Pi Hat. Provides power and switch on/off for the board. A total of 1.2A is provided for use by the RaspberryPi. Also some connectors for GPS, barometric sensor, and ADC measurements. Provides 12V power for a remote video board which is switched at the same time as the Raspberry Pi. Contains a MCP2515 CAN Controller and MCP2551 CAN transceiver for access to CAN bus. The transceiver is isolated from the rest of the board. Has a connector that allows I2C devices to be connected to the Raspberry Pi.

Chart plotter hat: common questions

What microcontroller does the Chart plotter hat use?

The Chart plotter hat is built around the DMG2305UX, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Chart plotter hat?

The Chart plotter hat measures 65 × 56 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Chart plotter hat?

68 components, from 44 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Chart plotter hat design files?

From the gpgreen/chart_plotter_hat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Chart plotter hat design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with gpgreen. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Chart plotter hat without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
