About the ORA Arduino ESP Shield

ORA Arduino ESP Shield is an open source ESP32 PCB design by gtrupiano, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 74 × 60.6 mm, with 5 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the Arduino_UNO_R3. By type, the board carries 2 connectors, 1 IC and 1 module.

It belongs with the robotics & motion and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

Senior Design implementation for Electrical Subsystems work for ORA's IGVC Robot

In the robot, there were plenty of components that needed to interface together. These include both ODrives over CAN and status light control. Its main purpose is to reduce the amount of wires that need to be going from each component and have every necessary component on a single board.

ORA Arduino ESP Shield: common questions

What microcontroller does the ORA Arduino ESP Shield use?

The ORA Arduino ESP Shield is built around the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ORA Arduino ESP Shield?

The ORA Arduino ESP Shield measures 74 × 60.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ORA Arduino ESP Shield?

5 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ORA Arduino ESP Shield design files?

From the gtrupiano/ECE-4998 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ORA Arduino ESP Shield design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with gtrupiano. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ORA Arduino ESP Shield without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
