About the Weather station PCB

Weather station is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by hackclub, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 78 × 52 mm, with 15 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the WEMOS C3 MINI, from the ESP8266 family. By type, the board carries 8 diodes, 4 connectors, 1 IC, 1 switch and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, displays & leds and sensors designs in this gallery.

*For my actual build, I'm using a WeMos ESP32-S3 module instead since it's cheaper and I don't need the bluetooth functionality! As a bonus theres 2x the amount of GPIO to work with if I ned to in the future.

[ x ] I ran DRC in KiCad and have made sure there are 0 errors!

Weather station: common questions

What microcontroller does the Weather station use?

The Weather station is built around the WEMOS C3 MINI, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Weather station PCB?

The Weather station measures 78 × 52 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Weather station?

15 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Weather station design files?

From the hackclub/asylum repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Weather station design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which hackclub chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Weather station without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
