About the Phase interferometer PCB

Phase interferometer is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by hackclub, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 54.3 × 76.1 mm, with 78 components from 48 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the SC18IS606PWJ, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the ADE-1+, AP2112K-3.3, W25Q16JVSS, USBLC6-2P6 and RP2040. By type, the board carries 41 capacitors, 15 resistors, 9 ICs, 4 connectors, 3 crystals and 3 antennas.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

A YSWS for the northern hemisphere's summer and the aussie's winter. Run by @pmnlla, with love and loads of carrots.

At a high level, this is a system that uses 3 antennas (elements) to esitmate the approximate direction of an incoming radio signal. This means that you're able to get the location of an object in a protocol-agnostic manner! The vision is that this is mostly portable (aside from the antennas) and can be whipped out anywhere to get a quick bearing.

The hardware contains 3 RF frontends, including 1 amplifier, 1 mixer, and 1 filter for each element. It uses a mixer to be able to directly feed the signal into the onboard RP2040 microcontroller. It then would perform a phase analysis to determine…

Phase interferometer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Phase interferometer use?

The Phase interferometer is built around the SC18IS606PWJ, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Phase interferometer PCB?

The Phase interferometer measures 54.3 × 76.1 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 0.8 mm thick.

How many components are on the Phase interferometer?

78 components, from 48 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Phase interferometer design files?

From the hackclub/reflow repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Phase interferometer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with hackclub. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Phase interferometer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
