i really want a watch so i'll try designing one with an esp32 for wireless time sync or something

A developer/tech nerd friendly wristwatch powered by an ESP32 S3 MINI 1, uses an e-paper display for power efficiency, and a 2000mAh battery for all-day use. It's supposed to provide both the features that a regular watch is supposed to have, while also having smartwatch functions and IO pins to leverage the power of the ESP32 microcontroller. I really wanted to make myself a wristwatch that I could use and carry around in everyday life. I was initially inspired by that really expensive and prebuilt CircuitMess watch, but it lacked the DIY process and developer tools that I wanted (so no…

Goofy ahh epaper watch: common questions

What microcontroller does the Goofy ahh epaper watch use?

The Goofy ahh epaper watch is built around the ESP32-S3-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Goofy ahh epaper watch PCB?

The Goofy ahh epaper watch measures 66 × 36 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Goofy ahh epaper watch?

50 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Goofy ahh epaper watch design files?

From the haohaohaoyan/goofy-ahh-epaper-watch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Goofy ahh epaper watch design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with haohaohaoyan. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Goofy ahh epaper watch without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
