About the VRCBadge PCB

VRCBadge is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Hebububu, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 102 × 80 mm, with 34 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the DW01A, ME6211C33M5, TP4056-42-ESOP8 and MAX17048G+T10. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 10 resistors, 5 ICs, 3 connectors, 2 switches and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the wearables, power & battery and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

Digital nameplate badge project for fun

I made RFID namecard before (for friends and myself) and you know, all VRC players change avatar quite often.

After making those namecards 3 times (dumb), I decided to make a digital badge for myself. (simple + fun toy project!)

It's gonna be a wearable digital badge powered by ESP32-S3 Namecard looking UI (Yes, changeable image ofc) editable profile information (twitter, discord etc..), and future RFID door key emulation.

VRCBadge: common questions

What microcontroller does the VRCBadge use?

The VRCBadge is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the VRCBadge PCB?

The VRCBadge measures 102 × 80 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.62516 mm thick.

How many components are on the VRCBadge?

34 components, from 20 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the VRCBadge design files?

From the Hebububu/VRCBadge repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the VRCBadge design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Hebububu. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the VRCBadge without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
