About the Devotchi PCB

Devotchi is an open source ESP32 PCB design by hussamkoman, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 45 × 50 mm, with 47 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-MINI-1-N4R2, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the DW01A, TP4056-42-ESOP8, ME6211C33M5 and HS20HS072RX. By type, the board carries 16 resistors, 13 capacitors, 5 ICs, 4 switches, 3 transistors and 3 connectors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

See purchase-list.md for the complete BOM with LCSC part numbers and sourcing info.

Why N4R2: PSRAM needed for display framebuffers — 320x240 RGB565 = 150KB per frame, double buffering needs 300KB. Without PSRAM, internal 512KB SRAM can't fit framebuffers + WiFi stack + application.

Source: LCSC/JLCPCB C5329582 — $3.70 (1+), $2.49 (100+), 1687 in stock.

Why this part: - Full RGB color — expressive Tamagotchi character (red angry, green happy, etc.) - 320x240 resolution — excellent detail for pixel art and text - IPS viewing angle — looks good from any direction (critical for handheld) -…

Devotchi: common questions

What microcontroller does the Devotchi use?

The Devotchi is built around the ESP32-S3-MINI-1-N4R2, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Devotchi PCB?

The Devotchi measures 45 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the Devotchi?

47 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Devotchi design files?

From the hussamkoman/devotchi repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Devotchi design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which hussamkoman chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Devotchi without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
