About the Steer32 PCB

Steer32 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by jpt1729, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 29 × 62.2 mm, with 49 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the BQ24090DGQ, CP2104, AP2112K-3.3, Display-1.9in-IPS-170x320 and USBLC6-2SC6. By type, the board carries 23 resistors, 12 capacitors, 6 ICs, 3 transistors, 3 connectors and 1 diode.

It belongs with the power & battery and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Steer32 is an ESP32 Devboard with support for a lipo battery and a 1.9" IPS Screen

Steer32 (named after the bovine classification of Bevo)) is a custom ESP32-S3-Mini-1 devboard made specifically with hackathons in mind.

Main features different from normal ESP32s - Built in display. - Option to plug in LIPO batteries.

- steer32.kicadpro / .kicadsch / .kicadpcb — main KiCad project. - custom-library/ — custom KiCad symbols and footprints used by the project. - docs/ — BOM (BOM.md, steer32.numbers). - scripts/ — helper scripts (kicadlabelalign.py). - gerber.zip` — exported fabrication files (gitignored, regenerate via KiCad plot).

Steer32: common questions

What microcontroller does the Steer32 use?

The Steer32 is built around the ESP32-S3-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Steer32 PCB?

The Steer32 measures 29 × 62.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Steer32?

49 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Steer32 design files?

From the jpt1729/Steer32 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Steer32 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jpt1729. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Steer32 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
