About the Tomo PCB

Tomo is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by kwan3217, published on GitHub under the GPL-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 35.6 × 55.9 mm, with 57 components from 36 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the FT232RL, ADuM3221, MPU9250, FGPMMOPA6H and HMC5883L. By type, the board carries 20 capacitors, 10 diodes, 9 resistors, 8 ICs, 5 connectors and 2 crystals.

KiCad versions of my circuits

Many of my boards have the Open Source Hardware logo on them. Using this logo requires having an open source license and publishing the source. In order to support this, I have the URL of this repository engraved onto the boards themselves.

I have made a release for the Wearable Pocketometer boards, and intend to make a release each time I have a board made.

All boards which have been released since September 2020 have enough information to construct a bill of materials. This is in the form of Digikey part numbers attached to each part in the KiCad .sch files.

Tomo: common questions

What microcontroller does the Tomo use?

The Tomo is built around the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Tomo PCB?

The Tomo measures 35.6 × 55.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Tomo?

57 components, from 36 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Tomo design files?

From the kwan3217/kicad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Tomo design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-2.0 license, which kwan3217 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Tomo without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
